Two of the earlier
recorded sermons of Pastor Martin and just as powerful today.
This two-part series addresses that teaching which says, contrary to
the clear teaching of the bible concerning true conversion and living
the Christian life, that a person may be converted and yet live with
indifference to a pursuit of personal holiness. This unbiblical
doctrine teaches that a person may have assurance of salvation but yet
show little or no evidence of a transformed life.
The Bible everywhere describes humanity as divided into two distinct
and basic classes: the saved and the lost, the righteous and the
unrighteous, the sheep and the goats, and those who have the Spirit
and those who do not have the Spirit. The Bible also teaches that
within these categories there are degrees of abandonment to sin, just
as there are degrees of advancement in the life of godliness. However,
over the years there has been a widespread teaching based upon I
Corinthians 3 which states that mankind is divided basically into
three categories. This addition of another basic category of mankind
seeks to find room for people who have professed the knowledge of
Christ, but who give little or no evidence of a transformed life. The
people placed in this category are commonly called "carnal
Christians." The purpose of these two sermons is to examine this
teaching in the light of the words of I Corinthians 3 and of the
larger context of Holy Scripture. If you are finding comfort in the
"carnal Christian" teaching, then you owe it to your own well-being
carefully to examine this teaching in the light of the Word of God. If
you have been disturbed by this teaching, but have been unable to
assess it in the light of the Word of God, then this series of sermons
should be of help to you. We urge you to listen carefully to both
sermons beginning with message number one.
