"The movie has been made and will open
in thousands of theaters worldwide this month. It will draw eager
audiences and become a box office hit - due in part to prerelease
controversy, the "must see" factor has reached an almost unprecedented
level of intensity among both committed Christians and the
cinematically curious. Mainstream Christian leaders of every
denomination [have] embrace[d] the film as the most artistically
ambitious and accomplished treatment of the crucifixion ever committed
to film." Michael Medved
The Passion Of The Christ, a
movie directed by the Roman Catholic, Hollywood movie-star Mel Gibson,
continues to stir spirited discussions and provoke real questions
among evangelical Christians. One of the primary questions asked is
whether or not evangelical, bible-believing Christians should or
should not see the movie. While many evangelical leaders have embraced
this film and are recommending it with enthusiasm, some evangelical
Pastors are not so supportive in their recommendations.
In an effort to answer requests for guidance from the members of their
own congregation, the elders at Trinity requested Pastor Martin to
conduct a Sunday School class to that end. This message is an
attempt by the pastors of the church to set before the people
of God at Trinity the biblical precepts and principles which ought
to guide one's conscience in making a righteous decision as each one
considers whether or not to see the movie.
We encourage you to
listen to this message and to read the New Testament Gospel accounts
yourself.
